QUAKERISM "101", 2005-06
Overview:
Quakerism is rich in history and complexity
to such a degree that many monthly meetings, including Gunpowder, sustain
a study and discussion group to consider, in an ongoing fashion, both historical
and contemporary aspects of Faith and Practice. Because the study
is an iterative process and even the most wizened of us consider ourselves
more students than masters of the subject, the class is perpetually at
an introductory level, thus "Quakerism 101". New seekers and attenders
as well as seasoned Friends are welcome. Format is an informal "led"
discussion centered around a reading chosen by the group. Participants
are welcome to join the discussion without having read the material.
Quakerism 101 meets 9:30 - 10:30 AM
on the second First Day of each month, before Opening Exercises at 10:30
and Meeting for Worship at 11:00. Quakerism 101 is typically held
in the west room that faces the porch and burial ground, leaving the remainder
of the Meetinghouse for those arriving for other activities.
